RESEARCHER

Aya Fatima Chamseddine

Aya leads Synaps’ research and advocacy on women's access to protection in Lebanon. She returns to Synaps having previously worked with us as a fellow, as part of our inaugural cohort. In between, she gained five years’ experience collaborating with Lebanon’s security sector on community policing and anti-harassment initiatives. She draws on an academic background in economics and sociology, but is at her best learning directly from people through fieldwork. For all its instability and uncertainty, Aya chooses to call Lebanon home for herself and her daughter—and sees Synaps as a place to do meaningful research that aligns with her values.
